OF MATCHES
It was 1820’s when
a first match of modern look appeared, made by John
walker by striking against glass paper. Another type
originates form England again by
pyrotechnician William Congreve. These matches
chemical constitution made there use dangerous. Wiennese
chemist’s stepan Romer used
white phosphorus in his matches in 1830’s
but still it was not very safe .
A swede lundstrom in 1848 discovered metallic
phosphorus and replaced the white
phosphorus. This is when so called “Safety Match”
came into existence. In 1910 an American company
under the name Diamond
Match got patent for the matches which were
not dangerous for health. USA president William H.Taft
addressee to patent owners and
ask them to refuse author’s right. They
agreed on 28 Jan 1911 and
now it belongs to all.
